MORE LIGHTS.
[To the Editor.]
Sir, —Fine weather and clear nights seem to favor us of late, and consequently there has been but little grumbling for street lights, but now that one can't steer by the moon, because she rises after all decent people are in bed. perhaps a word or two to the members of the Council might have some efitect. Even if that august body were only to put up half a dozen posts per month the borough would soon be sufficiently lighted ; but they seem to have come to the conclusion that the people should form a lantern brigade of their own. One has only to flounder for half an hour in the "lagoon" at the corner of Warren and Eastbourne streets on a dark wet night to imagine how much praise might be bestowed on our City Fathers were they to awaken to the fact that the darkness is tantalising to ratepayers of the borough. At the election in November next one of the platform planks for candidates should be "Lights or no Lights."—l am &e., Lux. Hastings, June 2, 1890.
