Concert at Papakura.
A concert was held at Papaknra on Friday i'veiling in aid of the organ fund. The large schoolroom was packed with an appreciative audience. The following programme was gone through : Pianoforte duet by the Mi sses Pee was well received. " Gallants of England " by Mr Pirani was redemanded by those present; song, " Dublin Jxiy." was well executed by Mrs Price ; Mr J. Holroyd recited " The Quack Doctor" and was called on to furnish another recitation ; .song, "The Smuggler King," was well given by Mr Newbould. In response to "Take back my heart" Mrs Heigh way sung " Sweethearts," both items being well received. A violin solo from " Maritana" was beautifully played by Miss Meuzies. Mr Land sang " The song that reached my heart," and had to respond to an encore. "Golden Love" by Miss A. Stevens was one of the prettiest items on the programme. The first part of the programme was concluded by Mr Goldsmith's song " Four Jolly Smiths." The Misses Bee opened the second part with a pianoforte duet, and the players had to respond to the call of the audience. Mrs Price's song " Out on the Eocks " was well rendered. " My Sweetheart when a boy " was well sung by Mr S. Knight. Mr Ileighway gave a reading which greatly interested his hearers. That beautiful
;ong " Queen o£ the Earth " was well rendered by Mr Pirani. Mrs Stubbs' song " I'm glad my hearts my own" was the gem of the evening, and she had to re-pond to an imperative encore. Mr Xewbould's song was even better than the one on the first part. Miss Menzi<j : gave a violin solo in good stvie. Mrs Highway':* lost .song was wry w, H given and loudly applauded, iiecitation, " The Woman of Mind " again brought Mr J. I'-.'-'royd Jn i ;re the audience, and he had w. respond to the demands of the audience three times. This item concluded the programme, which was highly appreciated by the audience. Mr Moosman provided refreshments after the performance. The organ fund will be greatly augmented by the takings, and one or two like entertainments will free the instrument.
