William Anderson, alio ■ Floyd recently transferred from Lyttelton goal, was to-day sentenced to three days' solitary confinement, and to forfeit 500 marks, equivalent to two month* remission of sentence, f<>r striking Warder Keaney with his fi =t and a cell utensil. Cin:isrcitrurii, May 29. A man named C'. E. Moore, blacksmith, of Leithford, dropped down dead while shoeing a horse in his shop at Waipara. He was sintering from apoplexy. Di nkiun, May 20. Ilenrv Tompkins, storekeeper at North Dunedin, while painting a cottage at Port Chalmers to-day. fell, breaking his neck. Death was instantaneous. Wellington, May 20 The Brnuncr Conference met to-day and elected the Hon. Mr Kerr, M.L.C.. Mr ( iuinness, M.11.R.,aml Mr Duncan M'Lean, of (ireymouth. members of the Advisory Hoard. Mr Stratford, S.M.. and the Chairman of the Ttiangahua County Council, who were appointed at the last sitting of the conference, declined to act on the Advisory Hoard. At the lintmur relief conference communications were received from the Dunedin and Wellington committees contending that the charge of 1 per cent, commission to be made by the Public Trustee was excessive, and urging that the fund should be administered by the Department free of co>t. The Premier said the position had been niiuimk rstood, There was practically no charge being made. It was decidt d to refer the letters to the Public Trustee asking him to explain the position. In Chambers to-day the Chief Justice granted an order directing Mr Marshal, of the vice-Admiralty Court, in whose charge the submerged barque Coromandel now is. to sell the vessel and pay the proceeds into the Court. An order was applied for on behalf of the salvage crew.
