RUMORED DISAPPEARANCE OF DETECTIVE KIRBY.
TURNS OUT CORRECT
BAIL ESTREATED. Special to Standard. (By Telt'tjrai'h.—Uica (Jorreapondetit.) Wellington, this day. Rumors were floating about town yesterday that a certain police officer whose name is just now prominently before the public had left hjs lodgings without giving notice of his intended departure. The police authorities are anxious about the absence of the man. Later. Detective Kirby failed to appear when his case was called this morning in the Magistrate's Court. The bail was estreated. There were two sureties of £IOO each on each of two charges, making a total of £4OO. The bondsmen were Mr T. R. Jones contractor, and Mr Hoblo, dentist. It is alleged that Kirby has left the colony per Tain«i from Lyttelton.
