Capital for New Zealand.

A review of the recent demand for new issues and the prospects in the near future is given, says the Pall Mall Gazette, by Mr W. R. Horncastle in his monthly circular. The difficulties of South Africa, he says, have naturally put out of court anything in the way of South African ventures, and induced cautious promoters to still pigeon-hole many schemes of great promise. Several West Australian companies made their public appearance, but have met with a cold reception, as the pletha of these concerns which have recently appeared, coupled with the absence of definite news of crushings in the majority of cases already before investors, has apparently satiated the appetite of those who some months ago seemed ready to absorb any amount of shares which possessed the trade-mark of the Black Swan. Manyshrewd promoters who had prepared schemes for flotation in this market are keeping them in reserve for a more favourable opening. The gold field which now stands highest in public estimation is New Zealand. Several ventures in this colony has been introduced to public attention during the past month, and in some case ; have met with very great success, while in others public support has been gained to a more moderate degree, but in all cases the companies have gone to allotment, and are reported to have ample working capitals. Mr Horncastle looks forward during the next few months to a great demand for properties in this quarter of the globe.
