Mr Maughan Barnett's Concert.

A!tho:;'.:!i Mr Maughan Ttornott's h;td preceded him, it is very e'i i'k'iit that Ha-tings i.-> nnahle to fill tl: Theatre when an entert;.i '.fin of this character is being gi ;••>. Last evening the hack of the hall were almost entirely deserted, but tho reserved seats were comfortably filled. The various items on the programme were of a high class order, and were interpreted in a really artistic manner, Mr Barnett's manipulation of the key-board being a revelation to the local artistes. Liszt's " Rhapsodic Ilongroise " came in for special notice, and the wonderful composition of " Ivinderscenen " was well received. The vigorous movement of " La Campanella " (PaganiniLiszt) was executed in a highly finished manner. Mr Barnett's own composition received favorable c-ri ticism, and the audience were agreed in tipholding the reputation he has gained. Ketterer's " Galop do Concert " concluded his numbers, and fairly brought down the house. Mr Harnett was assisted by Miss A. St. Hill and Miss Tanner, both of Ilaveloc-k. These young ladies arc evidently very great favorites, as was testified by the vociferous manner in which recalls were demanded. Miss Tanner's "II Bac-io " (Arditi) was well lvc-iived, and the audience were most decided in their demand for a recall. 11 O Sleep, why dose thou leave me?" was the other item set down to this young lady, who sang it well, and was ngain recalled. Miss A. St. liill was also in good voice, and her contributions, "Ce que je suis sans toi" and " Heart's Fancies," were encored. Miss Williams accompanied the latter, and Miss A. St. Hill the 1 former. Altogether the conceit was of a high order, and those present who were able to interpret the various pieces were well satislieel with the performance.
