FORGERY OF A CHEQUE.
THE ACCUSED ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. Launcestox, May 19. .!; hn Sykes, a well-known solicitor, has been arrested 011 a charge of causing a forged cheque for CI2OO to be presented at the Commercial Bank of Tasmania. The accused was admitted to bail and 011 his release wired to Dr. Cole, his brother-in-law to come to him. 011 th.- hitter's arrival he found Sykcs had cut his throat,but the wound ! s unlikely to prove fatal.
