Auckland, May 15. A telegram has been received from Waihi stating that the body of a man had been found in a tunnel (unused) in the Martha mine, Waihi. The body has not been identified yet. Stratford, May 15. The Hon. Mr Ward addressed a public meeting here last night. He spoke for two and a half hours, replying fully to the criticisms of Captain Russell and Sir Robert Stout. Ho was received enthusiastically, and at the conclusion received an unanimous vote of thanks, also confidence in the Government. Mr Ward also spoke at Eltham in the afternoon, where he received a vote of confidence. Wanganui, May 15. The Colonial Treasurer delivered an address to a large public meeting tonight. He defended his own actions, and the actions of the Government, and criticised at length the criticism of their opponents. He was listened to attentively, and at the conclusion accorded a vote of thanks and one of confidence in the Ministry. "Wellington, May 15, Mr C. A. Ewen lias resigned the position of manager of the Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth, in order to take up the position of manager of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, (vVc Mr J. At the Commission to-day two miners named Dow and Ward stated emphatically that after examining the mine they were of opinion that gas was the cause of the explosion. Last night the premises of Ehind and Wagstaff, corn merchants, and J. M. Smith and Co., drapers, at Lyttelton, were broken into, but in neither case was much taken. The Hon. J. M'Kenzie addressed a public meeting at Oxford last evening. A vote of thanks for his address and of confidence in the Government was carried with only a few dissentients. Mr W. W. Tanner addressed a meeting of his constituents at Linwood tonight, and received a vote of thanks and confidence, a vote of confidence in the Government also being carried. At a conference of delegates from the Labour and Political Associations and the committee of the Surplus Labour League to-night a resolution was carried " That this meeting is of opinion that it is imperatively the duty of the Government to provide work for all who are unemployed." With the exception of 11 all the successful applicants live in this district.
