AMATEO; ATHLETIC SPORTS. The H.B. Amateur Athletic Sports were held in the Recreation Grounds on Saturday, about 800 people attending. Although there was 110 rain, the weather was cold and raw, and by the time the last race was run everyone liad quite enough of it, especially as the sports all round, with the exception of what is described as the world's record put up by Holder in the 1 -10 yds hurdles, were far from exciting. The following are the results : Maiden Race (150 yds) : C. L. St. Hill, 1; Baker, 2; Riddell, 8. Time, Usee. Won easily. Three-mile Walk: -Jameson (250 yds), 1 ; -J. M. Hamilton (scratch), 2. Time, 2Gmins 48Asecs. Only three started, Price retiring early. Jameson won easily. Handicap, 100 yds : First heat : Holder, scratch, 1 ; Hislop, 11yds, 2; Wood, 10yds. :•{. Time, 10 -l-sth see. This was a good race between Holder and Hislop, the latter winning by a yard. Four started. Second heat : IJ. .1. Neagle, 7yds, 1 ; R. J. Riddell, 10yds, 2 ; J. L. Ryan, -Iyds. Time, 10* l-sth sec. These were the only starters, and resulted in a clo«e finish for first position. Final : Hoeder, 1 : Hislop, 2; ls r eagle,. y. Tiiae, 10 4-sth
see. The first two in each heat started. A very closely contested finish, Holder barely leading. Idile Race : C. L. St. Hill, 80yds, 1 ; H. Marshall, 50yds, 2; H. G. Anderson, 25yds, 3. Time, 4iniu. ."Usee. The winner ran well throughout, and won easily; a good race for i-oc.mtl place. Club Championship, 250 yds: J. L. Evan, 1 ; Wood, 2. Time, 29sec. Ryan had the race well in hand from the start. Hurdle Race, -110 yds : Holder, scr., 1 ; Heagle, 25yds, 2. Time, GOsee. Holder started with the intention of breaking the record. His striding over the hurdles was very pretty, and he finished in GOsec., which is claimed as the world's record, lie was heartily cheered on leaving the track. Putting the li,lb. Shot: This was won by Saxby (08ft. s',in.), defeating Hepburn. Ladies' Bracelet: O. L. St. Hill, 35 yds, 1 ; G. iieslop, 85yds, 2 ; Baker, B;syds, 53. Time, -iOsee. Six .started. Won easily. Schoolboys' Race, -440 yds : Bateson, 1; McFarlane, 2. Six started The scratch man coilared his men in the first lap, but the effort pumped him out, and he gradully lost the lead, finishing second gamely. Long Jump : N eagle, lTxb ljiu, 1 ; lieslop (Iff), 16ft 0.'.-iu, 2; Balfour, lui't (f|.in, Oilicials Bicycle Race, 880 yds: J. S. Co wail, sc, 1 ; W. It. Jordaine, 10yds, 2 ; J. 11. Swan, -10 yds, Four others started. One man who seemed rather at sea upon a wheel gamely cut oii half a lap by riding across the grass, syid finished a decent last amidst the delighted cheers of the spectators. N.SOyds Handicap : J. Baker, 40yds, 1 ; -T. M. Hamillo!), 55yds, 2 ; Anderson, 12yds, 1. Five others started. A very closely contested race for places. Time, 2mm 5 55-sth sec.
