Wellington, This day,
Sergeant-Major Pratt, of Nelson, is appointed a First-class Inspector, and relieves Inspector McGovern on the West Coast.
The Premier delivers a political address at Otaki this evening, and speaks at Paraparamu on Saturday night.
The Colonial Treasurer arrived from the South yesterday, and the Minister of Education is expected to-day. The Attorney-Generalship will most likely be filled this week, and, as Mr Guinness is here, rumour points to him as the new Minister.
His Eminence Cardinal Moran and the Archbishop of Melbourne arrived in Wellington to-day, and were accorded a reception at the residence of Bishop Redwood.
At the Fruitgrowers Conference yesterday it was resolved that, what was known as the " Nelson standard case," containing an Imperial bushel, and measuring 28in. by 11 in. by 7in. and the half-case 2in. by 7in. by 7in., bo recommended for colonial use ; that the Government take such steps as may tend to the better storage of fruit cases, and the careful handling of the same during' carriage to market.
