FREEMASON'S CONVENTION

Dunedin, This day

James Fox, fanner at Mandeville, committed suicide yesterday morning by shooting himself. He had been arrested on the lsth on a charge of criminal assault on his neic-e under 15 years of age. The case was remanded several times. °On \\ ednesday, after last remand, he went home drunk, and was found dead in bed yesterday morning with a rifle alongside him.

The annual communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge commenced yesterday, Bro. Malcolm Nicol, Auckland, P.G.M. presiding. A resolution was passed expressing deep sense at the loss sustained by Freemasonry in the death of Mr Gillon. The report and balance-sheet were of a very satisfactory character. It was resolved that the office of the Grand Lodge be removed to Dunedin, and remain there till atherwise ordered. It was decided to appropriate the sum of £SO towards providing a headstone and suitable railing to the grave of the late Bro. E. T. Giilon, in commemoration of his many services to the Grand Lodge, and in fraternal respect to his memory. Bro. Win. Barron was erected Grand Master for the ensuing term.
