Dealing only with Cook County we find an increase in the number of holdings from 349 to 399 ; wheat, nil in 1890, 200 bushels in 1891 ; maize, 34,395 to 38,733 bushels ; acres in grass after being broken up, in 1890, 11,135, to 18,884 in 1891 ; cocksfoot grass seed 6,072 (decrease from 14,085), ryegrass increased from 52,160 to 66,338. Generally in cropping, such as in potatoes, there is a considerable decrease ; the total number of acres under crop in Cook County is 213,530 as against 245,102 in 1890. Of course with this an enormous increase in stock has to be considered.
