FOOTBALL.
A capital practice game was played on Saturday, between sides picked by Messrs A. Rees and Nisbett, the latter selecting mostly Turanganui men to enable them to get combined practice. A very fest game was played, and Rees, Loomb, and many other old players showed up to great advantage. The result was Rees 3 points, Nisbett 2 points,
There were about twenty members at a meeting of the Turanganui Football Club on Saturday night, Mr Robinson being in the chair. Mr H. Maude had resigned the position of captain on account of want of time to attend to the duties. The resignation was accepted, with an expression of regret that Mr. Maude could not continue in the position, and thanking him for the interest be had always taken in the affairs of the Club. Mr F. Loomb, vice-captain, was unanimously elected to the vacancy, and then three nominations were made for the junior position, Mr Hepburn being the nominee selected, He was also elected as a member of the selection committee and delegate to the Union. It was resolved to ask Captain Winter and Mr Kennedy to act as umpires for the Club. The Chairman presented fo Mr Hepburn the handsome silver medal which was a gift from Mr W, Frazer, to the winner of the half-mile race on the opening day. The recipient was warmly applauded, bnt when pressed for a speech he was too bashful to respond, proving though he had wind enough for a ha’f-mile he is not a•' windy " individual. From the enthusiasm shown at the meeting the Club is going to be a real live Club this season as in the past. There is to be practice morning and evening it possible, and the use of the drill-shed is to be obtained for practice in packing scrums and such wqrk. The fullowing team Bas been selected to represent the Turanganui Club in the match against the Taruheru fifteen on Saturday next: —Full baoli: Featon ; three quarters: Hepbttrn, Matthews, Masterson; halves: Loomb, Branson, Burns ; forwards : Forrest, Nisbet, Leslie, Crawford, Robinson, Hope, DeOosta, Sherriff; emergencies : Morrison, Eaton, Hooper, Skipworth.
