AN APPEAL FROM IRELAND.

FUNDS WANTED FOR EVICTED

TENANTS. Auckland, last night. By tn day’s mail the local Home Rule Committee received a letter from Sir Thos. Esmonds, in which he says :—We feel eorry at having to appeal so soon again to tha friends of Ireland after the magnificent generosity of tbeir response to our appeal for help a year or ao ago, hut the position of the evicted tenants is desperate. It we cannot maintain them until the general election all their sacrifices will go for nothing, and they will be exterminated by ooercionists. It will serve no useful purpose for ms to go into details, and into the deplorable cases which have brought about the present unhappy situation of our national movement. They are public property. Oar position is this, that we cannot desert the evicted tenants after what they have done and suffered for the cause. We must do all that lies in our power to save these men and tbeir families, but I cannot believe that we shall fail in enlisting the sympathies of your race for such a purpose. Whatever side men may take iu the crisis, there oan lie no difference of opinion as to the duty of protecting men in the gap. Wa have to tide over the period between now and the general election. If the Gladstonians win the evicted tenants are saved.
