Waerenga-a-hika School Picnic.

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

Trig annual picnic in connection with the above school was held on the racecourse (kindly lent for the occasion by .Mr Wm. Cooper) on Thursday last, when all present appeared to enjoy themselves immensely. Owing to the generosity of Mr R, Colebrook, who provided tha bulk of the eatables at his own cost, the Committee were enabled to offer a good sum in money to be eotnpeted for in the sports held in connection with the ricnio, and to buy a number of books to be ilist.rihuted as prizes to those who grained the highest number of marks at the last examination, three prizes being given in each Standdard with the exception 1 f Standard I and those below that S sndard, each of whom received a gift. All girls who ob'ained 100 mai k--* for sewing also received a prize. A good 1 rogramme of eports was gone through, and “ Old Aunt Sally ” formed a centre of attraction to many. Two wheelbarrows, presented by Mr Joseph Cooper, were competed for wi h great determination by the boys nf Standard I. and 11. Prizes were distributed as follows on Friday, «hen a number of parents and friends assembled at the school-room to witness the proceedings Standard Vl—lst prize, Fred Shaw.

Standard V—lst prize, Ruth Colebrook ; 2nd

prize, Nellie Colebrook; 3rd prize, George Weir. Standard IV—let prize, May McCormack; 2nd prize, Bessie McClure ; 3rd prize, CUrietina Brooking. Standard lll—lst prize, Dora Colebrook; 2nd prize, Beatrice Shaw ; 3rd prize, Ina Mullooly. Standard ll—lst prize, Effie Colebrook ; 2nd prize, Manu George ; 3rd prize, Maude Cooper. Ths following girls, who obtained 100 marks for sewing, received prizes Standard V—Huth Colebrook.

Standard IV—Christina Brooking and Bessie McClure. Standard lll—Dora Colebrook and Evie McClure. Standard ll—Effie Colebrook and JaneColley, Standard I —Ethal Breingan.

A special prize, presented by Mr Joseph Cooper, for the most popular girl in the .chool, was awarded on the voting to Bessie McClure.
