AUCKLAND HOSPITAL ENQUIRY
The decision of the Commission to en
quire into the condition of the Auckland Hospital shows what a farce it would have been to have had a Commission that would have hushed the whole affair. I f the Commission which has just made its report has erred at all, it is in its mildness, the evidence being of a yery strong nature. Where Dr Collins made the mistake, however, seems to have been in not taking up a firm attitude, and demanding better administration on the part of the Hospital Trustees, in default of which he should have severed his connection with it. Mr Rees said in his address to the Commissioners that there ought to be a sign above the Hospital door, “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.” It seems the expression was not made without some good reason.
