The Tarawera Eruption.

The Auckland Herald’s correspondent wired on Monday:—Yesterday a party of natives, accompanied by Mr A. Warbrick, went to Wairoa for the purpose of bringing the remains of Penetito Hawea’s child, discovered the previous day, into Rotorua. The body is that of a girl about eight years of age, A portion only of her head had been exposed, which was well preeerved, but in digging, a quantity of muddy water was found round the lower parte, and the flesh presented a salmon-like colour. The body was in a sitting posture, with the head betwesn two portions cf a fence, as if looking and waiting for someone, probably her your ger brother, aged four years, whose remains were also found yesterday after a little searching, just about 20 yards nearer the whare, and whose cries at being left behind to die had no doubt attracted the attention of his sister. The soil where the boy was found was drier than that around his sifter. There was a blanket close to it, as if the little fallow had been dragging it after him. There was an inch or so of volcanic soil under both of the bodies, so that they must have left their whare shortly after the eruption occurred. The remains of both boy and girl have been concealed for the present by the natives at Ngapuna, about three miles from here, where they will lie until the father and tribe arrive.
