Information Wanted.

[TO THE EDITOR, | Sib,—Poverty Bay is certainly a peculiar name for a prosperous district - that is my idea, of course. I mav be wrong.; Cook evidently thought differently. I would wish, if it is not out of your bounds or direct lines, to know, first, who the first male child born of European parents, was, or is now alive, in the aforesaid district; secondly if that child is entitled to land. It so, how much ? and lastly how to go about getting it ?—I am, Ao. Sundowner.

The questions asked have been submitted to a gent'eman who will be acknowledged to be of the highest authority on points concerning the history of the district. He kindly writes in reply to our communication :— “ As far as I know, the first child born of European parents in Povertv Bay was a daughter of the late Bishop Williams, who was born on April 7, 1841. Mr T. U’Ber, now living at Whakato, I think, was berq after that date, but I cannot give you tha date of bis birth. He will, no doubt, be able to furnish you with it. I am not aware of anyone becoming entitled to land from the mere circumstance of having been born in the district,”
