Employers’ Red Herring.

[to THE EDITOB.J

Sib, —The Employers’ Unions all oror New Zealand and Australia, have come to the decision not to meet the representatives of Labor for the purpose of discussing mattei s in dispute between them, uritil Labor Unionists agree to work side by side with nonunioniats, or socalled free laborers; but if Unionists will positively agrse to this simple condition—so very simple (just so f) then employers wifi be most happy—so very happy-—to meet their former employees, and discuse the remaining difficulties, with a view to a speedy settlement. The position taken up by the dispensers of wages, shows that they are cu‘e; they actually want matters settled their own way before meeting the other paity interested in a fair settlement of the points iu dispute. The charming simplicity of this arrangement must command the admiration of all observers. To me, it seems a fine red herring cunningly drawn across the act nt; but it cannot be followed without the benefits resulting from the unionionism of labor being destroyed, Agreeing to the condition laid down by employers, capitalists, or profit sharers (call them whit you will) would be consenting to the employing of men (called free) wfig would be willing to work at a lower rate ot pay than Unionists ; no more, no less, jt is really a vital blow at the unionism of labor—expressed in the cunning phrase-the employers' right to employ free labor, which means cheap Tabor.— l am, Ac., WOBKIB, October 1.
