James McDermot, the American Fenian, is hiding in London, from supposed assassins. General Count Von Waldersee and General Von Verdi du Vermois have resigned their positions owing to the Emperor withholding his consent to strengthening the Prussian army, at a cost of five million marks.
The river Ardeche, a tributary of the Rhone, overflowed its banks, and the damage done to the surrounding country is estimated at two million pounds sterling, while thirty lives were lost. The Union S.S. Company of England have warned the men out on strike at Southampton that unless they abandon their dictatorial attitude, permanent crews composed of nonunionists will be engaged immediately. The position of the Jews in Russia has been referred to a Special Commission composed of Governors of the provinces. The Irish members arrested for inciting tenants not to pay rent were again brought before the Magistrates at Tipperary, and remanded. Timothy Healy and Timothy Harrington continually bullied the Bench, and scenes of a most disgraceful character occurred.
