LAND SETTLEMENT.
Mr W. 1.. Rees has zealously applied himself to the work of getting the Government to take action in regard to the Paremata block, and, we are informed by Mr L. Rees, a definite promise has been obtained that the Hon. Mr Mitchelson, Acting Premier and Native Minister, and the Hon. Mr Richardson, Minister for Lands, will visit Gisborne the first week in February, and they will be accompanied by Mr Percy Smith. Of course nothing definite is yet known as to what action the Ministers will take, but we are informed that the proposal is viewed with favor. As the matter is one of so much importance to the district we trust that the proposal will be heartily supported, and the necessary action taken to show that all political parties in the district are unanimous in the desire that the Government should take over the land and cut it up for settlement. It is a matter of great importance to the place that such a fine block of land as the Paremata should no longer remain a waste, and it is no satisfaction to know that such is thg case because ot the complications in which the block has become involved through the Land Company. The district is now heavily pressed with taxation, but the load might be greatly lightened by increased settlement of the land. If the Paremata were opened up it would be to the advantage of everyone in the place.
