TO DAY'S RACES. The first day of the Poverty Bay Tur! Club's Summer meeting takes place to-day, the first race starting at 12 o’clock. As racing always has been, and probably always will be, popular in Gisborne, a large attendance is almost assured. It is generally agreed that it will be very difficult to pick the winner jnany of thq events, qnd therefore the interest ;in them is greatly increased, " Tbe Tout,” however, makes the following shots Maidbs Plate—Four horses are entered fur this event, but Swivel has not arrived, so only three will start. There is likely to be a good run for the money. As it is a weight tor age race, and very open, I shall expect them to finish in the fqllcwing order— Cbiminal .. ' .i I Hobbs'ana .. 2 Moonstone 8

Tnis is rather a hard race to spot, but I think —bar accidents—that when the numbers go up they will be as follows— Watbbfall 1 Off Color .. .. .. ~ 2 The Dove 3 Tvbinoa Stakes Handicap — This is the race of tbe day, and for the event eleven hones figure on the card. It is to be hoped that they will all face the starter, and a real good race may be expected, as local owners are going to have a cut in and try and keep the money in the district, and not allow it to be taken away as it has been for the last five or six years. Partner and Burd Helen are most fancied as likely to furnish the winner, but there are a good many who firmly believe that if anyone can upset the pot it will be Pani. However whan it is all over I fancy they will pass tbe post in the following order— Partner ~ ~ .. .. 1 Bubo Helen g Pani g Flying Handic sb—There are five entries for this event. I can see nothing in it but the Napier topweight, and whoever beats him will scoop the pool; therefore I place them to finish in the following order— Eatinka .. 1 Cynical .. a Gbnbbal Thobstos 3
