London. January 11. The infant King of Spain is reported to be slightly better, but the state of his health is still precarious. The wine production of France for the year just ended only reached twenty three million hectolitres, being the lowest for the last twenty years. Counsel for Mr Parnell in the O’Shea divorce case has accepted the writ and filed defence. Mr Parnell deprecates the proposal to raise a public subscription for his defence. Captain O’Shea has issued a writ against Freeman's Journal for libel. A general strike of the dock hands is imminent through the refusal of the comp uiiea to dismiss men in arrears with their subscriptions to the Union. England has refused to allow its claims against Portugal to go to arbitration. Lord Salisbury insists on supreme control of the Lake Nyasaa region by Great Britain. .Roberta, the billiard champion, will pay a visit to the colonies some time between April and October. The Court of Queen’s Bench has ordered the Times to disclose the number circulated of the pamphlet “ Parnellism and Crime,” and the price paid to the author. The Times has appealed against the decison. Judge Kelly declined to receive a resolution of confidence in Parnell from a Clare Grand i Jury. Madrid, Jan. 10. I Senor Sagasta remains in office for the I to try and avert a revolution which I s feared should the King succumb. Berlin, Jan, 11. The funeral of the late Dowager Empress Augusta took place today. The Duke of I Edinburgh aud Prince Bismarck were absent I at the desire of Emperor William, on account I of their ill health. New York, Jan. 11. A train was wrecked at Sydney, Nebraska, I to-day, and the Australian mails on board were burnt.
