Sir Harry Atkinson.

Some of our contemporaries appear to doubt the seriousness of Sir Harry Atkinson’s illness —think it is “ pnlitieal sickness—never looked so well in his life," an-i so on. His appearanoe last session gave no indication of illness, and be never appeared lu better form in debate. Yet we know for a fant he was vary ill at times, aud it was with great difficulty he could attend to business at all. Some of the doctors called it “paralysis of the stomach," but all found it difficult to give it a specific name in p, thology. Since then hla illness has increased, sometimes appearing to wear off, but always returning, and occasionally in an aggravated form. When he was in Wanganui lest he was very ill, seeking change, in accordance with medical advice, in hopes of relief. The cause, we have little doubt, is worry, not hard work, which seldom does harm if accompanied by peace of mind. The fact ie Sir Harry has bad a lot to try him in recent years. The sad death of his brother, to whom he wae much attached, through drowning, the prolonged, and serious illness of Lady Atkinson, added to the cares and anxieties cf office, have told heavily upon him, and produced, we are inclined to think, the nervous disease which is gradually undermining hir constitution. The best remedy would appear to be for hie complaint change ot scene and mental rest or relief from care. We sincerely hope his trip to Tsamania will serve to restore him to his former vigour, and that he] will return to New Zealand in heal ch and spirits.— WattgailUl|tleraM,
