Shipping Casualties.

Wellington, last night, The barge William Maclaren, from Newcastle, was wrecked at the Heads on Saturday evening. She struck on a rook, but drifted off, and Captain Salmon expected to be able to keep water down with the pumps. The vessel however foundered nearly opposite the pilot station, the crew having just previously taken to the boats, Both vessel and cargo belonged to Captain Salmon, and there was not a penny insurance on either. Tba Marine Department has received a telegram from the officer in pharge of the Customs et Mongonui slating that a large quantity of wreckage has been found in Spirits Bay, apparently belonging to a ship of large dimensions. Among the wreckage was a board on which “ County of Carnarvon " was painted in go|d letters. In a cablegram from Valparaiso on September 18th it was stated that the County of Carnarvon iyas missing and a premium of £fiO 'was paid lor reinsurance, The steamer Mara has returned from the wreck of the Koranui. It was found that the Utter’s funnel was smashed, but there was no otlier apparent change. She is lying on a sandy bed. The weather was rough and the divers had difficulty ia gqipg down,
