A Cementitious Melody.

[By Fancy. There is a board—for reasons broad It’s name I’ll not disclose; Buffice to say, in Hungry Bay. Its fame for ever grows. It's on record, thia very Board Had oft been sore distressed, Restricted now to forty thou’ With funds it’s not o'er pressed. Bnt funds or not, this Board has got To build a mighty pier, And keep a clerk, and what a lark, A first class engineer 1 To Engineer, it doth appear, A duty to report, And represent that the cement, Was running very short. The members wise, show no surprise, But limply ask “ how much ?” “ Two thousand tons, for when it comes It will be such and such.” They tenders call and open all To find them much too high. Accept them not but ask the lot, To have another try. o once again, but all in vain, Our tenderers compete, For Engineer performs a queer And most astounding feat. For he would learn from London firm The lowest for cement, And to this end would recommend A cablegram be Bent. n a twinkle comes to « Wrinkle ” Quotation which astounds, For as a board they can’t afford To lose three hundred pounds. The Board in short, without a thought Of faith they should have kept, For such a sum all risk would run This offer to accept. Grand men were these who braved the breeze Of tenderers’ stormy ire! To emulate such truly great Should be our whole desire. But sad to say, scarce had a day The Board enjoyed its fame, To their-surprise, some one descries A loss instead of gain. Mobal. Keep faith with ail lest you should fall Into the snare you're setting, Deal only fair; act on the square, If contracts you are letting.
