Christmas Eve passed off very spiritedly las night. The Garrison Band improved on the occasion by playing some pretty carols, anthems, and hymns. Mr Corfe, the retiring headmaster of Christ’s College, Christchurch, was presented with a gold watch by the masters, aad a silver egg boiler by the boys. At the annual meeting of the First Chui ch in Dunedin the Rev. J. Gibb said that only niue of the congregation were driven away' by the introduction of the organ. An Auckland wire states :—T. Barnett, perk butcher, died suddenly on Friday night, of heart disease. He was seized with severe pains while walking from his business, and died in a vehicle which he had haiie l to' assist him home. The decease! gentleman; was father of Mrs A. J. Cooper, of this town.
