London, Dec 8. At a meeting of the Grand Lodge of Free masons L«rd Carnarvon moved on behalf of the Prince of Wales that the Lodge should recognise the union of the New South Wales Lodges The motion was carried. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales was elected Patron. The Right Hou. John Bright is hourly becoming weaker. It is rumoured that a conference to discuss the best means of suppressing the African slave trade will be convened by Great Britain. Mr Dilion, replying to the address of sympathy presented to him by the Liberal members of the House of Commons, said that Liberalism had been the means of drawing England and Ireland closer together despite the Acts of the Government. If Home Rde were granted to Ireland the friendship already formed would be cemented. Hom- Rule for Ireland did not mean sepaiation from England. On the other hand the sympathy of i ngland was what the Irish desired, and not political separation, and if that sympathy were fully offered to Ireland it would go far to stamp out crime in that country. Evictions are being resumed on the Clanricarde estates in Ireland. Paris, Dec 8. In the Chamber of Deputies last night a scene occurred between two members named M Sussini and M. Basley. The former called the latter an ass, whereupon M. Basley walked across the floor of the chamber and struck M. Sussini in the face. The President ruled that the word ass was rude, and the matter might have ended there but for the blow given. A duel was fought between the two without any serious result, and to-day the aggressor apologised to the Chamber for his misbehaviour. Rome, Dfc. 8. The Italian Government in a circular note to the Great Powers protest against any European agitation for the restoration of the temporal sovereignty of the Pope. Signox Crhpi stated in the Senate to-day that the position of the country compelled Italy to maintain a perfect armament. Capetown, Dec 8. The trial of Dinizulu and Undabuko has been postponed. They allege that they are guiltless cf having been the cause of the recent fighting, which was the result of misgovernment. Zanzibar, Dec. 8. The blockading ves els now on the coast have captured a slave dhow. The Geimaus have bombarded Bajomazo. New York, Dec. 8. The widow of the late Amos Snell, a millionaire, who was murdered in February last, now offers a rewatd of £50,000 for the conviction of the murderers.
