It has been stated in the House of Commons that the New Zealand Government had cabled to the Imperial Government to the effect that the figures mentioned in Mr Rees’s colonisation proposals were entirely misleading. Sir Charles Warren, late Commissioner of Police, has been offered the command at Aidershot. It is estimated that the cost to the Tinies of the enquiry now proceeding will amount to £lOO,OOO. The Irish fund for the defence of Mr Parnell is expected to reach £20,000. Mr W. H. Smith announced in, the House of Commons that the proposed wheel tax would be abandoned, time not permitting the proposal to be sufficiently discussed. The Bill to extend Lord Ashbourne’s Act has passed through the Committee stages. The Committee of Admirals have awarded the victory in the recent naval manoeuvres to Admiral Tryon who commanded the squadron originally blockaded. • Paris, Nov 29. When M. Wilson entered the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday he was shunned by the members of the Republican party. St Petersburg, Nov 29. It is reported that the new Russian loan will bo applied io increasing the Black Sea fleet. Rome, Nov. 29. The Monitor asserts that the Pope will probably solve the difficulty between the civil and the ecclesiastical authorities before leaving Rome. Berlin, Nov 29. The German Press evinces anxiety at the growing strength of parties hostile to Germany. At Vienna it fears they will affect the Triple Alliance.
Vienna, Nov 29. There has been friction lately between Prince Reuss, the German Ambassador at Vienna, and Count Taafe, President of the Austrian Ministerial Council. The quarrel is attracting some attention in diplomatic circles. Constantinople, Nov 29. The Sultan has decided to receive Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria.
