SPORTING- NEWS.

Racehorse owners are again reminded that nominations for the Waerenga-a-hika Jockey Club's Boxing Day meeting will close this evening. Thia popular gathering is always specially attractive, both to the local owners of horses and the sport-loving portion of the community, and the coming one will assuredly be no exception to the .rule. A large number of Poverty Bay horses are in training, and although we may not be visited by many outsiders, the racing is bound to be good. Of course at this season of the year there are always a number of meetings being held throughout New Zealand, so that our resident owners may confidently depend on meeting cattle the merits of which are generally known. Of those I am able to speak of just now I may mention Privateer and Imposter, the former having much improved, and the chestnut, though a bit light, seems very well and full of heart. Audacity, Cynical, and Turehau (Billy Harrison’s charge) are steadily progressing, and will no doubt be very fit when the day comee. P. Malone has Bit of Blue and the Moor pretty well advanced, the former being a trifle on the big side, but he is none the worse for that. Rhodes is hard at work wih Off Color and Assignee. The son of Anteros is somewhat too big, but not too much so with another month before him. Puni is short of work, but may pick up. Of Deceiver, Nora, Fitzjames, Dancing Maater, and others I can only speak from heresay, but they are all said to be going veil, and promise to be very pink on the day they will have to face the starter. I shall endeavor to let you know something further shortly.
