(TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —As there is some doubt in the minds of the ratepayers as to what the rate will be in the event of the poll being carried, I beg to submit the following statemsnt, as the maximum rate I believe will ba levied when the £40,000 is expended on the breakwater and a proper adjustment of the accounts is made— General rate over Tologa and Waiapu of 5-16lhs of a penny in the £ .. £656 General rate over County Special District of 5-16ths of a penny in the £ 1654 General rate over Borough of 10-16ths of a penny in the £ .. .. 807 £3117 Special rate oyer County Special District of 4-16thsofa penny in the £ £1323 Special rate over Borough of 8-16ths of a penny in ths £ 645 £1968 The total rate in the County Special District will be—General rate of 5-l6lhs of a penny in the £ and Special rale of 4-16ths of a penny in the £, or 9-16iheof apenny in the £, which, to make it as plain as passible, will be 4s 9d on each £lOO worth of property. The total rate in the Borough will be IJd in the £, or 9s 6d on each £lOO worth of property.—l am, <fco., J. Townley.
