. The coalminers throughout England, Wales, and Scotland are demanding an increase of 10 per cent. It is stated in Berlin that Count Herbert Bismarck will in future direct the foreign policy of Germany. Prince Bismarck asserts that the alleged extracts from the late Emperor’s diary were published in the interests of a revolution. New Zealand frozen mutton is quoted at 5Jd per lb. For the Hobart loan of £50,300 the amount subscribed was £94,000. The Orient Steamship Company has increated the freights to the colonies by 20s a ton, making the rate 80s per ton. Sir John Lawes, a wheat expert, does not consider that there will be a large advance in the price"of wheat. The Spanish Government has decided to increase the navy.
