At Ashburton a man named Wood was committed for trial for unlawfully demanding three rings and a £1 note from a Mrs Lookhead, by sending a menacing letter. The letter demanded the return of the rings and a £1 note, and expressed surprise at Mrs Lockhead marrying another after having promised to marry the writer. Accused had also used abusive language to Mrs Lockhead. The father of Mrs Lookhead said he sent the articles back to Wood immediately they were received.
