Be just and fear not; Let all the ends thou aim’st at be thy country’s, Thy God's, and truth’s.
THE BOROUGH ELECTION. We need hardly congratulate the ratepayers on the result of Thursday’s election—they had the power in their own hands and undoubtedly used it to the best advantage. There was nothing in the shape of excitement during the day, but the friends of the different candidates worked hard for the men of their choice, and especially was this so in the case of the defeated candidates, Many people expressed surprise at the fact of Mr Townley not being at the head of the poll, but that is easily accounted for, and is just as we predicted. His supporters were so certain of his success that they became careless. This being the first election which Mr Harding has contested (previously he was unopposed), that gentleman is to be congratulated on the high compliment that has been paid him. Mr Coleman will help to infuse into -the dry bones of the Council that new blood which is always a welcome addition, and we believe that those who elected him have done a good service.
