London, Sept 1. A n article appears in Truth in which it is stated that the Victorian Civil Service mast be over-manned if officials have leisure to manage the Melbourne Exhibition. A fire has occurred at London docks, which, did some damage mainly to colonial produce It is just possible that Lord Carringtom Governor of New South Wales, will pay a flying visit to England next year. Kentish hops have advanced to ten guineas per cwt. Diamonds have been discovered among the samples of McDonnell rubies sent here from South Australia, and an agent leaves shortly, on behalf of a syndicate, to make more minute investigations. The Canadian wheat surplus available for export amounts to between twenty two and twenty four million quarters. Bishop Cowie, of Auckland, sails for New Zealand on November 15. Mr Haddon’s drama, “ Captain Swift,” has proved a success at the Haymarket.
