From far India we hear the bitter complainings of the religious Hindoo at tbe demoralising influence of the present system of education enforced upon the native people by the English Government. The wholesome restraints of their native religions are being loosened or destroyed by a purely secular and scientific education; no precepts, either religious or moral, are permitted to take their place. And the dread of tbe growing immorality of the younger generation is exercising opinion there to a high degree. From these primitive and remarkable people, surely we British bull-dogs might lay a little of our scientific-intellectual, savagery aside, and try to learn a wholesome lesson ere it be too late. Reader, fancy the native youth of India developing a taste for parricide, a crime hitherto almost unknown there, and this—don’t start aside in pious incredulity—and this we repeat, is directly and distinctly traced to the new methods of teaching the young idea of Calcutta “how to shoot.” Delightful task!
"ZEALANDIA” BOOTS. THESE Celebrated Boots have STOOD THE TEST FOR THIRTEEN YEARS; hey have been sold throughout tbe Colony, and are to-day MORE POPULAR THAN EVER; in the busy city or in tbe quiet forest their fame is known to thousands. THE SPLENDID WEAR And Reputation of this Brand have arisen from the fact that only first-class materials are used, and none but good workmen are. employed in their manufacture. TESTIMONIALS Have been received from hundreds of Cast tomers, certifying to the splendid wear othese Boots, and the public are guaranteed against loss from bad workmanship. A Boot with such a reputation naturally leads to other goods being offered, purporting to be “ Zealandias,” but this is a registered Trade Brand, and every pair is stamped on the solo “ Zealandia,” and every other Boot is not a genuine " Zealandia." THESE CELEBRATED BOOTS Have had extraordinary success at the various Exhibitions. In Sydney and Melbourne they obtained the Highest Colonial Awards; at Christchurch and Wellington Exhibitions they obtained the only Gold Medals, and have beeu placed first at local Shows and Exhibitions, too numerous to mention ; and at the recent Indian and Colonial Exhibition they were pronounced the FINEST EXHIBIT in the whole Exhibition. (See Sir Julius von Haast’s letter to Sir Julius Vogel.) And as this was in competition against the British Empire, it is something to be fairly proud of. Let all those who want strong, Hard-wear-ing, Good-fitting Boots, buy a pair of “ ZBALANDIAS,” and they will never use any other. Sold by Storekeepers and Boot and Shoe Dealers throughout New Zealand, and manufactured for the trade bv LIGHTBAND, ALLAN & CO., Christchurch. tS'See that the brand “ Zealandia ” is stamped on the Sole. The new “ PARAGON ” BOOT, patented by us, and the INIiESIBUCTIBLE TOE are splendid things; and we also highly recommend “ Corrick’s Patent Boot Back Protectors.” LIGHTBAND, ALLAN & CO.,
