The Skating Rink.

On Tuesday evening the prizes—or rather one of them, because the first one has not yet arrived—won in the ladies’ skating competition on Saturday last, was presented by Mr W. F. Crawford. On the evening of the competition the judges’ names were not made known, and this added an interest to the affair by exciting the curiosity of the ladies, both engaged and disengaged—in the competition of course. The judges were Messrs W. F. Craw, ford and G. Stevenson, and the decision was given as follows, together with a few complimentary remarks by Mr Crawford “ Miss Bella Porter in forward skating displayed a steady swing, power of stroke, and command of the outer circle. The skating of Miss Wyllie was particularly graceful, showing an easy confidence not only in forward but in backward movements, which were not attempted by any of tkje other competitors. Taking into consideration the number of points made by each of the above ladies, the judges have decided to award the first prize to Miss Wyllie and the second to Miss Porter. Having regard to the very short time the various competitors have had to practise, we think that the proficiency arrived at is exceedingly creditable, and should encourage the ladies to persevere, and at the next contest be able to display figure and scientific skating of no mean order." There was a good attendance of tinkers last night. To-night the Hussars’ race takes place, add it will be the ladies’ turn now to criticise. If the 'Bars come up to anything like their usual form, a first-class contest may be anticipated.
