FOOTBALL.

FIRE BRIGADE V. COMBINED TEAM. The football match between the Gisborne Fire Brigade and the combined team took place on Saturday afternoon. A drizzling rain fell while the gams lasted, making the ground very slippery. The game was principally confined to scrimmaging and dribbling, running being out of the question owing to the greasy nature of the ground. During the first spoil things were very equally divided, the superior science of the combined team counterbalancing the greater weight and strength of the Brigade, and no score was made, though both sides were forced down several times. In the second spell the Combined forwards made a rush and took the ball down the field, and Hepburn by a good dribble worked over the line and touched down, making the first score for the Combined team. Hepburn took the kick at goal, which was a failure.. Shortly after this the ball was taken into the Combined's twenty-five, and Bannister, getting the ball, ran in and obtained a try for the Brigade. Parsons took the kick, but no goal resulted, No further score was made and the game resulted in a draw, both sides having scored a try. The most noticeable players were Bannister, Fox, Burns, Townley, and Morrison for the Fire Brigade, and A. Wade, Priestly, Hepburn, H. Maude, Hall, and Lemuel.
