P Rowe, American novelist. PRESENTATION OF MEDALS. The Board of Trade has awarded medals to the captain and crew of the Mariposa, who rescued the crew of the ship Henry James, which was wrecked on Palmyra Island, near Samoa. THE G.O.M ’S GOLDEN WEDDING. To-day was the celebration of Mr Gladstone’s golden wedding. He and Mrs Gladstone received a large number of congratulatory messages. Mr Gladstone was presented with a portrait of himself, painted by Frank Holt, R.A., and Hubert Herkomer, A.R.A.
ARREST OF A DYNAMITER. Another dynamiter has been arrested at Chicago. Further revelations have been made in connection with the contemplated dynamite outrages. GERMANY AND RUSSIA. Sr Petebsburg, July 26. The Journal de St. Petersburg declares that the Emperor ’William’s visit to the Czar is a strong guarantee that peaee will be maintained between Germany and Russia. CARDINAL MORAN VISITING IRELAND' Rome. July 26. Cardinal Moran had another interview with the Pope yesterday. The Cardinal leaves to-morrow on a visit to Ireland.
