A smart attempt at an original style of advertising was defeated by the Victorian metropolitan press the other day. Amongst the entries for the Cup was a horse named the Tom Boy, entered hy Carrie Swain, for which the usual deposit vas paid In m iking out ihe list the clerk contrived that this entry should herd the fist, Of course it is usual for the public to rush to see the list of horses for the Cup and Derby, and if the little affair had come off it would have prow d a fine puff for the Theatre Royal. But the vigilant ey»s of the Melbourne newspaper sub edit r penetrated the game and struck out the entry. Someone had the pleasure of naving £5 for nothing.
