NEW HARBOB BOABD MEMBEB. To be a member of the Harbor Board in the present juncture in the affairs of that body is considered by many to be the holder of an important position, and undoubtedly it is so. There is no doubt the harbor trouble will get worse before it gets better, though we hope that the ultimate result will be a good one. It is well, then, to note any slight change in the constitution, or rather of the membership of the Board. As is well known, Mr Allan McDonald has been compelled to relinquish his seat, owing to causes which all parties regret, and which everyone hopes he will completely recover from —that being a prolonged illness. In that gentleman’s place the Government have nominated Mr E, Murphy, and the appointment is worthy of nofice. We have not the slightest conception of the views that are held by Mr Murphy, but on general grounds we believe the Government have made an appointment that will be cordially approved of. The gentleman referred id M not been a leading light in our political arena, though he has not hesitated to come forward when he believed that by so doing he was taking that part in public affairs which po responsible person should shrink from. Therefore we are convinced that he will be an acquisition to the Board, His views may be contrary to our own, a 3 we have a slight apprehension they will be, but he is a man of solid sense and business capacity, and whatever his opinions may be, we feel certain that thev will be conscientiously acted upon. The country people should also be pleased to have on the Board another representative of the country interests.
