LOCAL NOTEB—BOXING DAY MEETING. The Waerenga-a hike Jockey club'. Boxing Day Meeting was bald st the course to-dsy. The morning was threatening, with dark aloud* overhead, but there was a good Dorthsrly breeze, which it was hoped would oontlnu* to blow, and thus prevent rain. Th* rid* out was far from pleasant, clouds of dust swssp. iog along the road, and making the rid* or drive very unpleasant for thou who went out with the main body | but once the course wa* reached, the atmosphere Was delightfully cool and invigorating. There was a better attend dancs than at th* Spring Meeting of tbe big Otub, and thia notwithstanding that many changed their minds about going out, as they were afraid of a wet day. B did rain a little in the afternoon, but it did not to any extent mar the day’e sport, and made the homeward trip very pleasant. Th* Secretary, Mr M. G. Nasmith, spared himself no trouble to make things Work smoothly, and certainly deserve* the thanks of sporting men. Mr Adair acted as judge, but there was only one close finish) that in the Hack race. Some expressed dir. satisfaction at tbe decision, but it was im' possible for any but thou directly opposite the post to see which horse won, and there was no doubt Bit of Blue had the race easily though his jockey tried to cut it a little too fine. " Willow ” has previously criticised the handicapping, so that little further may be said, but when all the difficulties are consi; dered, it must be admitted that, though ther* were no close finish**, Mr Bennett succeeded very well. Captain Winter, a* starter, had to exercise much patience, but always managed to get his horses ofl well.
