THE IRISH QUESTION.
BAD AND SINFUL. REFUSES TO WEAR PRISON CLOTHES DUFFY ON HOME RULE. London, December 23. The Bishop of Limerick has condemned boycotting and the Plan of Campaign as bad and sinful. Mr. Hooper, M.P. for County Cork, who was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for publishing reports of meetings of the National League, declines to wear prison clothes unless forced.
William Healy and Bishop Clonfert endorse Bishop O'Dwj er’s condemnation of boycotting and Plan of Campaign. Sir Charles Gavan Duffy has written to the Marquis of Hartington pointing out that Gladstone s Home Rule scheme provides a safeguard for the supremacy of ihe Imperial Parliament. The Maiquis of Hartington in reply contends that the safeguards are insufficient, and that granting Home Bule would mean separation.
