" A colonist ” writes upon the hardship that is now being inflicted upon the settlers in the Waikato district by the manner in which the Babbit Inspectors are exercising their functions. He states that the inspectors are not succeeding in driving off the rabbits, but they are far more successful in respect to the settlers, as some have been already driven off, and the farms left to the mortgagees and the rabbit inspectors to do with what they like. The travelling allowances |and expenses drawn by the late Ministry between 3lst March and 6th October amounted to £ll4B 14s. This is at the rate of £164 2s a month.
