THE PRESIDENT’S ADVICE. DESCRIPTION OF NEW PRESIDENT. Paris, December 9. President Carnot urges the Extremists and Moderate Republicans to unite in order to destroy the power of the Royalist party.
The newly-elected President of the French Republic, M. Sadi-Carnot, is grandson of Carnot, the celebrated member of the Direotoire—who has been surnamed the Organisator de la Victoire, because of his prominent part in the organisation which followed the Revolution—and son of a senator of high standing and great capabilities. His age is between 40 and 50, and he sat for many — - —t- of Cbatnuer ot Deputies for the Department of Cote d’Or Dijon. By profession a civil engineer of some eminence, but he has of late years filled the post of under-secretary to several Ministers, and he held a portfolio in one of the recent Ministries. He is aeputed to be a man of moderate views, roevoted to the interest of the Republic j one of calm indisposition, but resolute will, and capable of taking up a thoroughly independent position, so as to command the respect of all parties in the Legislature. As President he will immediately vacate his seat in the Chamber of Deputies, and will be invested with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.
