Following these came something tbat looked at first like a draught horse, but when passing the tree I was planted in, it turned out to be old Charley, who did two miles in fair form. On Tuesday morning Lennell’s cracks went over to Sunderland’s to do a big flutter, possibly to avoid the scrutiny of “ Willow.” Off-Chance went under clothing for slow work. Longwaist was sent a good gallop for two miles. Nina and the grey back were sent a serviceable two mile gallop- at half pace. Bit of Blue negotiated two miles fa«t. On Wednesday Off-Chance, under blankets, did three miles, Longwaist going the same. Nina did two miles at three quarter pace. The crack team again went over the river and exercised on Mr Sunderland’s course. On Thursday there was a large muster on the course, the Makaraka teams being the first. P. Malone with his four did steady work, but nothing fast. Longwaist did not show up. Fitz James and Nora did two miles in splendid style. Chiquita and Pouawa went two mdes at a good useful gallop. Nina went a slow two miles W. Bai’y sent Gipsy a mile fast. Sunderland’s two hacks did two miles fast. The grey hack was the last to exercise and went two miles at half pace.
