Rev. J. and Mrs Mountain.

The Rev. J. and Mrs Mountain commenced their evangelistic mission in Gisborne in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The choir* which had only been under instruction for two days, showed remarkable proficiency—indeed so much so that Mr Mountain compU” merited the teachers of the boys and girls in the Sunday and day schools. He said that in any place which he had visited he had never got young people in so short a time to sing so much to his satisfaction as they had done here. The choir numbers about 40 adults and fully as many children. On Sunday morning the church was fairly well filled, and Mr Mountain, though evidently troubled with a weak voice just now, delivered an able and interesting sermon. In the afternoon Mr Mountain was quite at home and happy with a large gathering of children, their parents, and friends, and though some of the children were in for over two hours, they seemed quite loth to leave. In the evening the church was filled, and the interest in the meeting was sustained throughout, The- text was “ God so loved the world,” on which both Mr and Mrs Mountain delivered addresses, and fairly rivalled the attention of the large congregation. A few minutes past eight Mr Mountain gave those who wished to do so an opportunity to retire, but evidently those present appreciate! the service, as nearly alt remained. Mr Mountain is a quiet, yet a powerful and fluent sneaker; he makes no outward attempt to exhibit his own abilities, out his mind seems concentrated on the one great object, and, what is more, he has the power to impart some of his enthusiasm to others, which also leaves a firm impression on the mind. Mrs Mountain has a clear and distinct expression, and an earnestness that must impress her hearers. There was was another very successful meeting last night. The meetings will be continued to* night, and every night this week.
