POLITICAL NOTES.
AN EXTRAORDINARY OCCURRENCE. VOGEL FORGETS HIMSELF, PAINFUL SCENE. (own correspondent.) Wellington, last night, A most painful scene occurred on Tuesday evening, A question was asked of the House whether two public officers were not retained by Vogel as attendants. On a reply being given in the affirmative Vogel said it was gross bad taste and want of manners to raise the question. The Speaker ordered Vogel to withdraw his statement, but this he refused to do. The Speaker was firm in hie demand, and a painful scene ensued. Vogel, in an excited state, said he required extra attendance through an act of God, but other members wanted it through an act of the devil, and their lust for liquor, some of them being habitual drunkards. One was a very high officer of the House. Ultimately the Speake named Vogel, and he had to withdraw. r
AU political interest is centered in the epieode, and nothing else is thought of for the moment. The result must greatly injure Vogel and the Opposition. Up to the present time, 8 p.m., no result has been arrived at. It is reported that a motion is to be made declaring that a certain high officer of the House is unfitted for the duties entrusted to him. If so the fat will be in the fire.
