Messrs John MelUday and Co., produce merchants, Sydney, make the following report Under date October 261— . Wheat Since bur lasthae declined in value; best milling, 8s 3d to 8s Bd. Fowl wheat gulet, 2s Td to Sa 7»d ; inferior fowl sorts without notice. We are led to believe from the reports from the other wheat producing Colonies, that lower rates will yet rule. Bran has hardened in value, and sales have passed at Bfd ; we think will maintain present rate for a month at least.
Pollard is in more request at 7Jd to 8d; no actual advanoe may be quoted; stock '/Oata are unaltered since , our..last—Beet Milling, 2s 3d; Bright heavy feed, 3s to 2s Sd ; off sorts have scant notice, la 8d to Is 10«; Bales have been made at Is 9d for seed neovend the decline quoted In our i last, and has been sold at 4s for best sorts, end is its present ruling prick. Barley— Cape seed 3s, nominal; English bright malting sorts are scarce at 4a 6d. The last Frisco boat brought about 4,000 bags Chevalier, which has gone on to Melbourne at an advance on above quotation, Potatoes have had a very fluctuation market, and an now worth tor Circular Heads, 40s; New Zealand 80s; Ballarat. 45a. As the restrictions on Tasmanians have been withBrawn; we sea no chance of any improvement Ifl value. mon especially as our local potatoes will bs in the market in large quantity in about three weeks, their value to-day being about £6 10s. Onions have advanced, and value is £lO, with indication of advancing. New will be in the market in about three weeks. Peas.—Blue Boiling unaltered. Present value, 4s 3d; Partridge 8s Sd, with good enquiry. Chaff.—Beat quality £4 15s to £O, and tor choice samples £0 os is obtainable; interior hardly noticed at £2 up. We anticipate much lower rates, as a large quantity of new hay is arriving by rail, and must go into Immediate consumption, being too green tor keeping purposes. Hay Oaten, really prime old in good demand in bales, £5 to £3 10s; new, all piioea from £2 up. Lucerne, 40s to 60s according to value. Straw.—No alteration, 2s 6d in bundles; 2s 9d derrick pressed; supply equal to demand. Bark has a decided advance. Best ground Tasmanian, £8 to £9 ; prime chopped Tasmanian, £8 to £8 10s; local chopped £5 to £7. Beeswax.—lOd to Is. Oatmeal.—Large stock on the market, and outside value £l2, with little notice. Beef.—New Zealand, in 1001 b kegs, 22s fid; 8001 b tieroes, 60s; with good enquiry at these rates. Butter (duty Id per lb) —Continues very plentiful, and the outlook is for lower rates. Values to-day, nominally, best local 7d: factory Bd, actual values being fully Id less. Cheese (doty 2d per lb) —Local are arriving very new, and value 2d to 4d ; good rich matured are readily fetching 6d ; loaf, 7d to 7jd for rieh, good color, matured quality; in good demand. Bacon (duty 2d per lb) —Local machinecured sjd to 6jd; band-cared 7d to 8d; New Zealand, in cloth, leading brands, 9d for well cut, and medium weights with good enquiry and ready sale. Hams (duty 2d per lb) — Loeai Id to 9d ; New Zealand, in cloth, lOd to 11J, for light weights, well cut, with good inquiry. Eggs—Old to lOd. with fair business passing.
Lard—ln bladders, 4d to sd, quiet; in kegs, 3d to 4d, dull. Honey—Clear garden. 5d to with good enquiry for really good quality.
