Melbourne, yesterday. Yesterday proved the most beautiful day in respect to weather we have experienced for gome time, and a large attendance was the result. Both the Victorian and New South Wales Governors were present. Handicap Hurdle Race.—About three miles. Friction, 1; Sir Launcelot, 2; Ellerslie, 3. Friction won by two >ngths. Time, 5 mins 40 ; ics. Railway landicap,—Six furlongs. Master John, 1; New Master, 2 ; Lando, 8. Time, 1 min 17 secs. Kensington Stakes Five furlongs. Ven. tore, 1; Hegira, 2 ; Yan Kin, 3. Time, 1 min 3 secs. Melbourne Cup.—2soo Bovs and a trophy value of 100 sovs added. Second horse to receive 500 sovs, and third horse 250 sovs. Two miles. Dunlop .. .. 1 Silvertnine .. .. 2 Australian Peer .. 3 After a little delay the horses were got away to a splendid start. Silver Prince, Thunderbolt, Tranter, Oakleigh, and Charmer were the first to get away. Silver Prince led until near the sheds, when Dunlop assumed the place of honour, with Silvertnine and Australian Peer close up. A hard race took place all the wav home, Dunlop eventually winning by a length, Silvertnine being second, and Australian Peer third. Time, 3 mins 28J secs., the fastest on record.
